My Issue with Logitech

I’ve owned several Logitech products over the years, and I have to say I’ve been very pleased with most of them. That is up until recently. So what happened? Did Logitech start making worse products? What is going on with Logitech?

First, I would like to say that I think the quality of Logitech products has been pretty good for the most part. I own a bunch of new Logitech stuff, and they’re excellent. I think they’re a little expensive, but I think you get what you pay for.

My primary issue with Logitech is actually software related. So I bought an MX Ergo Trackball mouse a couple of years ago. Overall, it’s a wonderful product. It’s comfortable for my wrist, and the trackball is easy to use. This was really my introduction to the Logitech software. I’m talking specifically about Logitech Options. If you own any Logitech mice or keyboards, then you’ll know what I’m talking about. At first, I thought it was great software (and still do). It provides a ton of customization options for the mouse and has awesome features like Logitech Flow.

I enjoyed it so much that I thought I’d buy more Logitech stuff, so I got myself a headset. Specifically, I bought the G733 Lightspeed headphones. These are great headphones; they’re comfortable, the sound is good, and the battery lasts long enough for me. However, I had to download different software to use it, the Logitech G HUB. This was slightly inconvenient, and I was a little miffed about it, but no big deal.

Recently, I was eyeing some desk upgrades. I wanted a new mouse and keyboard specifically. I decided to go with Logitech because they had exactly what I was looking for. So I bought the Logitech MX Master 3s and the Logitech MX Mechanical keyboard. I absolutely love the mouse. The clicks are satisfying and not too loud, the scroll wheel is super responsive and easy to use, and it feels great in the hand. I also love the keyboard; it’s sturdy, the key clicks are super satisfying, and it’s easy to type on.

My main issue with these products is that I had to, yet again, download different software. It wasn’t enough to have Logitech Options; I now needed to download Logitech Options+ and the LogiBolt software.

This is nuts

So in order to use my 3 products, I need 4 different pieces of software. To be clear, I like the customization options in the software. I actually use those a lot for various applications. However, I’d really like not to have to install so many different things to do so. Individually, the software is good. They do what they’re meant to do well, in my opinion.

I think that if Logitech could reduce this to one piece of software that you could connect all your different products to, it would be a massive win. Their products are already good, so it’s baffling that they bog these great products down with all this different software.
